7970 vs 770 vs 780

Right now I have a 7970 and I'm planning in the fall to upgrade it should I go with a 770 or save up a little and get the 780?

I would say crossfire a second 7970.  But if you insist, save up for a 780, the 770 is just a better 680, and the 780 is like a lesser Titan, same architecture, just less powerful.

ok thank you the second 7970 might be a good idea but the noise and heat output make me lean towards a 780

If you are going to upgrade in the fall wait to see what the next AMD series will offer.

770 is not really an upgrade, go for 780 or wait AMD 9000 series.

I would not go with a second 7970 because of the framerate issues they have on the AMD cards right now with crossfire. They are supposedly working on a patch but many people are saying it is a hardware issue and not something can really be remedied with a software update. A 770 would not give you a huge performance increase but a 780 will probably give you 30-40% better frame rates depending on the core clock of your 7970. I'd recommend going with the 780 (GK110 GPU is a monster) or if you don't mind going SLI 2 760s is giving amazing frame rates and does not have the same issues as crossfire solutions are currently suffering from. Dual 760s right now seem to be the best FPS per dollar solution available right now it easily beats the 780 and costs $150 less. But if definitely waiting until the fall to upgrade be sure to see what AMD offers before buying, they will be releasing some awesome stuff and even if it isn't vastly better than Nvidia it will atleast bring the price down on the 700 series.

Try again, RadeonPro fixed that issue long before this frame pacing thing becoming an issue.  :lol:

3 Months is not a long time with a card that can still kick out great FPS numbers in any game out, especially a 7970 which is just as fast as a GTX 770 and both have no problem kicking any game to the curb.

The patch that is supposed to fix the other issues, which not everyone agrees it will, is set to come out on July 31st according to

I know about the upcoming HeartBeat driver at the end of this month but i have no idea about the other gibberishs u talking about

Wait for 9000 series or put another 7970 in crossfire, the new drivers will be released soon to improve the crossfire experience. Otherwise get a 780.

RadeonPro fixes everything for me.. I would rather have a Lil microstutter then a completely fried gpu from the nvidia drivers.. I love how everyone still mentions bad AMD drivers when all nvidia drivers since the release of 700 series cards have had serious issues.. And by the way my two 7950s will destroy a 780 for less money..

Wait for the 9000 series or get a 7970 now, it's a powerful card and will last you a while, the premium on the 770 and the 780 aren't justifiable, they're over-priced products.
