Just wondering, is it possible to back up partition tables of volumes within windows (or any OS for that matter really)? And if so what about file structures? I've lost data twice to loss of the table and thus the file structure, and having both or either would've allowed me to at least get my data back. So I was wondering if its possible to back that up without backing up all the data along with it.

Thanks

I am whatever I am.

Hey N3rot0xin,

There are some applications that can do that. Also you can do that on Linux with a couple of commands (you can look that up on the internet). It is an useful thing to do especially when you are trying to save space. Another thing that I can recommend is keeping system images of your drive. They can be easily restored with a system repair disk. Here's a link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/restore-computer-from-system-image-backup#1TC=windows-7

Is this possible for drives other then the boot drive? My main storage is an external drive enclosure with 4 drives in spanned/jbod volume. Can I do a similar backup on that? A drive image for that would be un do able because its 2TB. Just need to back up the table really.

I believe you can back up other partitions besides your boot one. :) But for table backups I would look into booting from Linux and doing it from there.
