Hi guys, I have a problem.

My home internet connection speed is 20/3. Two computers are connected via wire, one laptop wirelessly, and several mobile phones also wirelessly. Speedtest on every device except my computer shows 20/3. But my computer shows random numbers. Sometimes download is 3, sometimes 5, sometimes 15Mbps, and upload speeds are rarely above 1Mbps. My ping is also a bit high - around 20-25ms while  wireless devices usually have 17-20ms.

My computer is usually connected by cable, but for testing I tried connecting using TP-LINK, and results were the same.

I am running windows 8.1 64bit, motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0. All latest drivers.

The problem started when we changed internet pack from 5/0,5 to 20/3.

Check your DNS server address and change it to the default google ones if neccessary. (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

This will not affect his internet speed in any way.

What type of cable are you using to connect to your router? What is the speed of the router? What's the speed of your NIC? Are they 10/100? Gigabit?

This sounds like there's something saturating your connection--not a problem with your internet.

Are you downloading anything? Torrenting? Seeding?

I ran ipconfig /all and under DNS servers it says 192.168.5.1 which is my local IP. Is that fine?

I can't detect any problems with my mobo. And under wire I mean ethernet, yes. English is not my first language.

I am using CAT 5e cable, but I doubt its the problem since its the same if I connect wirelessly.

And this happens even if my computer is the only device connected without torrents or any downloads/uploads running.

Could be a shot nic, then. How old is the computer? Are you using onboard lan/wifi?

Also have to factor in the computers and wireless devices that are on if they have programs that are automatically updating. That can cause it to randomly drop when game clients decide to update (ie: STEAM or Origin) or even Windows Update.

Turn off all the devices and then have one device connect to the internet and see what your speed tests are. Once it is high then you add devices slowly back online and check the speed. Once it drops suddenly you go to that device and narrow it down to whats running.

I do not think you have a cabling problem.

Its just a side thing to do. The asus network controller is a big one.

OMG dude thank you so much!

Why would ASUS' network controller bottleneck my internet speed? I dont get it...
