1600 mhz or higher

I am building a new pc and was wondering if its worth getting the higher mhz ram. I was originally going with 1600 mhz but then thought as my motherboard can take up to 3300 mhz why not go with a higher hertz.

 

What do you think?

You should be fine with 1600MHz RAM.

Unless you are using integrated graphics, the better RAM makes almost no difference. Also, higher speed RAM usually has higher CAS latency which cancels out any benefits you will see from the clock speed.

No. You can't run 3300MHz RAM (without some serious tuning) and you don't need to. 2800MHZ+ is silly for most people unless you absolutely require it.

You can easily run 3300Mhz on X99, but Z97 will be a no go.

Well it is possible on both platforms but the tweaking to get it stable would put people off. Some people prefer to not set the XMP profile since it usually has poor timings and/or speed.

Yes, because DDR4 is much easier to run at higher frequencies than DDR3.
