What's the best chipset for overclocking the G3258? I'm looking for a stable 4.6~Ghz. I was thinking maybe H81 becuase apparently that works...

I'm going for a budget option so if there's a difference between H81 and Z97, please suggest something in the middle. I want budget yet effectiveness.

z97 would be the best one for overclocking it.

Z series boards are made to be able to overclock, whereas most h series boards are not, though that has been changing with recent h97 boards and some h81 boards.

Heyyo,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1150

H81 doesn't let you overclock your RAM, but tbh not really that necessary... You won't see much performance difference in games between 1866MHz and up anyways. It'll give you a different number on 3DMark is about it lol. :P

Otherwise? PCI-E slots is the only other difference for multi-GPU setups.

For budget overclocking H81 will do. Most boards are voltage limited to 1.3V, but that should be perfectly fine for 4.2-4.4GHz on most chips. Don't bet on being able to get stable 4.6 on 24/7 voltage though, even on Z97, you'll have to do quite well in the silicon lottery for that.
