1080p GPU upgrades?

I have a R9 270X which was basically the king of 1080p cards in 2013, just wandering if it's even worth upgrading for a 1080p display because I see more and more cards have way more VRAM then 1080p needs and is targeting at 1440p and 2160p which isnt a plan for me just wandering because I want to play at 1080p but don't want to go overkill. But I want max details I suppose..

However games like GTA 5 show that you need more than 2gb for max settings, so is 3GB good for 1080p? Sounds like it to me, so even a gtx 970 to be safe.

how should I get 1080p max details?

The 970 sounds like a safe bet to me.

I'm using a single 1080p monitor with dual 970s which is total overkill so you should be fine with just one.

Yeah 3.5 would leave room for graphic detail but still kinda overkill, which more 1080p cards were being made.

Gonna see what AMD has too

Personally, I'd wait to see what the R9 300 series has to offer.

Perhaps an R9 370x could be your next upgrade.

If you find yourself needing to buy a new gpu every single generation... you probably should consider buying higher end cards to begin with. You should always be skipping at least one generation if not 2 for gpu's.

Wat

IDK how long a generation is to you (I suppose card generations?) But i've had it since 2013 and I don't need to upgrade yet just hard to run all my games maxed, and getting a 980 or something is to overkill for 1080p in most games

I used to always keep cards 4 years. Now i have deeper pockets so i feel tempted to upgrade earlier but even so 3 years really needs to be my minimum between gpu upgrades.

I presume you bought top of the line shit 4 years ago then? Because I bought a budget card 2 years ago :P If I bought a titan x right now then it might last 5 years or so,
