yes, you had to. The people that did sci show does a episode on this i think. Everyone was not equal like we have today ish. But they did vote, more so than rome anyways.

not all greeks practiced democracy, sparta for the most part was a monarchy. Mainly athens pioneered that, but in a sense, they didn't just decide to suddenly go into democracy. It was their form of government for a long time that slowly evolved into something we could consider a democracy, but there were far more linear restrictions on who could be in council and vote.
