Hello!

I am looking at upgrading some things on my rig, my keyboard and monitor to be specific. I have just been debating, what do I buy first?

For the keyboard, I was looking at the Razer Blackwidow to match my Razer Naga mouse.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823114038&cm_re=razer_blackwidow-_-23-114-038-_-Product

For the Monitor, I was looking at the Acer H6 23" IPS desplay.

My problem is I currently have limited funds, and the monitor is currently on sale (so is the keyboard, but only a dollar off).

Thanks for looking at this post, feel free to comment as you feel, I am open to other suggestions as to different monitors and keyboards,

GH

What to buy first, under normal circumstances usually depends on what you're currently using. If you're using a bundled logitech keyboard, then I'd upgrade that first. The monitor in this case would be my pick, on sale, and by the time you've saved enough for the keyboard you might be able to find a better price. Tech very rarely goes up in price, the delay might be just long enough to bring the price down.

Oh! forgot to mention, Is that monitor a good replacement? I have a crappy HP monitor that came bundled with a pre-built computer we got years ago. The thing is, the HP has a 5ms response time, and the one I am looking at has a 6ms response time. Is that something I need to be worried about?

Do you play competitive dota, LOL, or CS:go? If not then I wouldn't worry about the response time too much. It looks decent enough, IPS, decent brand etc... If you're worried do a search for it, and see if anything pops up by a reputable reviewer.

Yes, actually. I am HUGE into competitive CS:GO, so i was wondering if a 1ms difference would be that big of a deal...

I would tell you to avoid razer keyboards as they are shit. Looking back, if I had had an opportunity to game with a mechanical keyboard over my razer membrane keyboard, I would never have bought the razer. Even if it says "mechanical" I would double check, because the difference is huge.

When I hear people say "controller is better than keyboard for driving games" I think "maybe if you aren't using a mechanical keyboard". Give me a track I know, with no traffic, and a fast selection of cars, and I will smoke just about anyone in a GTA online race. This corsair k65 is so fucking responsive that it''s insane compared to my razer membrane.

I second completely

If you want to get a Mechanical Keyboard I would HEAVILY Recommend Corsair's K70

Because he had a hard drive.

I'm of the opinion that at the 5-6ms range, not really. It might make a difference down in the 1-2ms response range however. (yes that asus monitor does look pretty awesome, but it's also very expensive). If you need those sorts of response times on a budget you're looking at TN panel monitors, and they're very much a compromise.

Yes, but GTA online gets my award for "biggest dose of of rubber cheese in driving physics" Personally If I'm playing a racing game I need analogue controls, even if just for throttle response, braking and steering. If you're on the limit of control you do not want the car's balance upset by having to release a button because it's turning too hard.

I would have gotten that, but somehow I didn't realize what I was buying AT THE STORE was the k65, which doesn't have a keypad...... don't ask me how it happened, but I somehow didn't fucking notice, and I spent at least 30 minutes looking at this one, and the razer chroma. Only reason I bought this is that the razer chroma wasn't lit up.

*facepalm*

I don't really play driving games that much, GTA online is about the extent of it. Although I can ride the limit of control in that with a keyboard, easily. I'm used to ridiculously fast WASD movements thanks to years of FPS. The only thing that really throws me off is asshole ramming me. If I can get a good lead in first, good luck catching my ass.

OH MY GOD

-snip

*sobs into sub-standard keyboard* I really don't have a clue how I didn't notice, maybe because I don't like being in stores, too many people, even in a best buy.

Maybe it was what I was thinking at the time "OMG SHINY GLOWY RGB MUST HAVE IT NOW"

The thing that pisses me off? It isn't cherry MX blue, I wanted blues, I want clickiness, I bottom out my keys on this mx red just for the extra loud noise. Sadly, blues were unavailable online at the time thanks to corsair being GIANT FUCKING ASSHOLES
