are those cpus even compatible?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Yeah they are both LGA 1150 and so is my motherboard

Both cpus are compatible but you will need to complete a bios update with the I3 to allow it to work with the I5.

It's lga 1155.

They'd be LGA 1155 but no biggie. You need a BIOS update to run the ivy bridge CPU. So reinstall your old one and go to your motherboard manufacturer website.

Look up your board and get the latest BIOS available. After you flash it you should be good to go to install the new CPU.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Hey Bulldog651,

As the guys pointed out, you most probably need an update on the BIOS. Check the motherboard's manufacturer's website for the latest version and instructions on how to do it. If you need help, call the manufacturer's support, go to a repair shop or simply post here and some of us will give you guidance on how to proceed. :) If that doesn't help, do test the CPU on a compatible motherboard to make sure it is not defective.

Check the CPU socket for bent pins. Also pop the battery out and let it sit for a few minutes to clear the CMOS. Might help.

As @ApolloX75 suggested, make sure the socket is fine and not damaged or defective.
Resetting the CMOS is also a good idea. If you have a spare motherboard that you can test the CPUs on, do try that.
