My dad has a Lenovo HTPC type of case (I think it's a Lenovo Thinkcentre M58p) and it has a rather old 160GB Seagate 3.5' HDD in it. One day, I decided to clean the PC out with compressed air and etc. After I closed the lid and put all the cables back and powered it on, there was a very intrusive buzzing noise coming from the HDD. It seems to operate normally and it didn't seem to slow down. However, if I open the lid a bit or just generally put it in a different position than normally sitting on the desk in some way, the buzzing noise would stop or at least be almost gone. If that didn't work, then simply laying a finger on the hard drive itself would make the noise go away. I'm not sure if the drive is dying because it coincidentally happened after cleaning the computer and it still seems to be perfectly normal. Is there any way I can stop this noise?

backup data off it

and then use some rubber washers to isolate the drive from the hdd cage...should stop the buzzing..till the hdd totally dies

I guess I will back the data up but, I really don't think it's the untimely end of that hard drive yet... Seems really weird that the sound would go away under random conditions, such as a slight pressure with a finger on the top of it, or opening the lid of the case just a tiny bit (or change it's position in some way). Oh, well, I will take precautions and back up the data, but hopefully I will stop the buzzing with that ribber washers technique (if the hard drive cage allows for it.)
