Need help with building my first pc for video editing

Hey guys!

I'm currently running an old iMac and I want to have more power for my video editing.

I have 1500$ budget to buy all of the component (not including the displays). I will probably run Windows 8 (or 10 when it will be released) and (maybe) a hackingtosh on a second drive.

I'd like my graphics card to be at least able to run a 4k display and 2 1080p displays.

The programs I use are premiere pro and after effect, but I'm also planning to use c4d.

So what do you recommend?

I'd probably like to have a 500gb ssd for my os and hdd for the rest. But those hdd need to be fast for fast video file load(but not as fast as ssd)

Based on what you've build, I think I'd need more ram and less storage space.wouldnt one 500 gb ssd drive be cheaper?

Perhaps a slower one, but not much cheaper

how much total RAM do you want? 24 or 32?

Then you'll need a X99 motherboard which only support 2011 CPU sockets which tend to be way more expensive.

You don't need to go with an X99 system to be able to get 32GB Ram.

I know but single 8s are quite expensive so for his budget it won't really fit.

He can just get 2 x 8GB sticks if He can't afford 32GB from the start.

You would be better off dropping the second 290, switching to a 290x and getting a better motherboard

Would this be a good choice?

Or should I change the two graphics card for a simple 980?

GPU acceleration in CS products only uses one gpu except for export/rendering. So it is generally better to get a single more powerful gpu.

X99 would be a better platform for the applications mentioned in the OP.

Unless you work with very large projects, 16GB should be enough memory. Especially with a 500GB ssd for swap and scratch. The motherboard can handle an additional 4 memory modules, allowing an upgrade to 32GB or 48GB should that prove necessary.

I left out any hdd as I believe it was mentioned that you already have one.

The motherboard has dual channel a/b/g/n/ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
