Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

290x, great card. I found a windforce one for just $400 AUD!!!!!!!!!!!! That's pretty frieking amazing imo. But then I check it again to find...It's gone back up another $70. Blah. My Dad was alread unimpressed when I told him my graphics card was $400, think of it now. And a 290 isn't any better. $380 for a strix. *vomits everywhere*

Anyway, I'm not buying for my GPU for a while. I guess I can only hope it drops in price with the release of the 300 series. Hope.

Is there a good inbetweener? I'm only holding on from the speculation of a new AMD series. Which isn't too reliable.

Honestly just check out Nvidia's GTX960/GTX970 as they don't seem to jump around in prices at all. AMD's prices are always going up and down - but it'll probably go down pretty quickly with the new R9 300 series just around the corner.  You could always consider the old Radeon 7000 Series as most of the R9 200 series is just rebranded Radeon 7000 cards.

Really? Sorry, I wasn't around for the 7000 series cards. Examples? I say the 960s they are just as expensive as 290s, lol.

GTX 960 = R9 280/ R9 285

R9 280x > GTX 960

R9 290 has no real competitor , great card . GTX 970 > R9 290 > GTX 960

GTX 970 = R9 290x

Go for the cheapest in any of the branches .

In 7000 series ,

7970 is a 280x

7950 is a 280

Hm. I'm looking to max out H1Z1, Black Ops III, MKX (Maybe), Batman, and just some other large games. Not too sure about necessary requirements though.

What would be good for these sorts of games? My mind doesn't like to work when I'm tired, so treat me like I only have 3 posts pls.

Quad SLI Titan Xs would max them out.

Honestly a R9 280 / GTX960 would do pretty decent at those games (Black Ops Possibly an exception).

Yeah, thanks. For BO3 I don't care too much about settings. The system requirements will be fine for me. I thought COD was a CPU Intensive game anyway.

What would be a good one in specific?

You could also consider the older GeForce cards, the GTX700 & GTX600 series still have some pretty decent contenders. I'm not too sure what I'd recommend in the way of cards though, are you planning 1080p ultra everything or are Mid-High settings fine?

1080p Ultra whatever I can for my budget. Mid-High is fine. I've never grown up with high end cards and 8000000k rez. So It'll be fine.

For VRAM I was thinking 3GB. Black Ops III is a minimum of 1GB. Do keep in mind I don't want to bottleneck with my 4690K.

My friend plays games at respectable frame rates with an i3-4330 with a GTX970 and the bottleneck isn't noticeable. Have you considered turning down the CPU for a higher GPU?

No, I don't really want to do that. The 4690K is just such a good CPU. If I do tone down the CPU, there's not much of a point in water cooling and overclocking. The K series is just so reliable for overclocking.

Considering you have such a tight budget and are already struggling to get the ideal money raised, I personally think you're aiming too high. Consider a student job? Thats how I paid for mine. Everyone wants 4 way SLI Titan Xs with a 5960x, but thats unreasonable. Lower your expectations?

Alright. I don't have a tight budget. It's just the parents aren't ok with me spending so much money on a GPU, which is understandable.

I think I'll settle with this. That's about $130 cheaper. Will it be able to Ultra 60FPS @1080p most of my games? If not high-mid settings 60FPS? @1080p?

Honestly, you would do way better dropping the 4690k to a 4440 and drop the water cooling then getting a 970 or 290x. That's a much better balance.

I also agree. The GPU is mainly the game child. Even the old I5-2500K is still fine for games, I know...as I have one. They do not need water cooling. My 2500K runs @ 4.2 for years. You're spending a lot on water cooling for no REAL good reason when the cooler could be a huge AIR cooler that won't need any maintenance.

In games the GPU is barely a bottleneck at this point...in new builds unless you buy i3's or something.

If I was you, I'd even rather buy a used GTX 780 or GTX 770 4 Gb like I have and settle for no water and slightly cheaper CPU. When you get ultra in your games you'll be thanking yourself.  But if you go water cooling and buy the 280X which is already 2 gens old.....you probably won't be able to run ultra.

I'm not sure how much you could save but if I HAD to... I'd get the i5-4460 , Some $40 air cooler, and the best GPU you can afford. THAT will last you a lot longer and you'll be able to play newer games better...like the new batman game.

Or get the same CPU, Air cooler...some really good one, save up more for the GPU when AMD's new line comes out. That should drop ALOT of prices on the AMD side of things.
