Hi. I just upgraded my rig and i'm at my last component( beeing a GPU) / maybe 2 in couple months.

Specs:

I7 4790k

asus z97 - pro gamer

16gb ram 1866

500w psu (bronze cert)

msi 270x

250 gb SSD

I am playing on 1080p . not more not less

I would actually love to max most of the games... because i hate not to be able to... :D

So i was thinking if i should get a msi gtx 970/strix or a 290.

I already did some of the research and GTX 970 seems to win all the benchmarks.

Can you give me a tip? Should i get 970 (which one - i live in Romania so not all of them are available) or another GPU.

Gtx 970 I think.

It's a strong single gpu and good temps, that is enough for me :P

Hey,

I had EXACTLY the same setup as you 3 days ago, except the PSU (mine is 775W), I upgraded my 270x to a MSI GTX 970 3 days ago and it's awesome! it can run anything on 1080p. Especially since you have 500w psu I wouldn't recommend AMD as their cards require 2x the amount of power than Nividia. Also Nividia has geforce experience which is great (such as shadowplay) in case u want to record videogameplay.

The GTX 970 is one of the best on the market right now (pretty equal to the r9 290x) and the only ones better currently are the GTX 980 & Titan X which are overkill/overpriced for 1080p imo.

I'd say GTX 970 OR GTX 980 only in case u have too much money to spend haha. You won't be dissapointed with either of those.

Ok so definetly GTX 970... Now question. Which one?

I heard MSI is the best... beside the (lighting one)

or linus recomended strix...

If it dosen't matter that much i'm just gonna get the MSI to keep my black and red looks.

I'd personally say, get a blower style if you can find one. I'm running 2 GPU's and my reference is cooler by ~22°C :/

Otherwise, get whichever looks nice. The partner doesn't matter too much.

I'd cast my vote in for the G1 Gaming if you have the room in your case, as I'd suspect most people here would do the same. Overclocks like a beast, plenty of BIOS options if you want a 0% fan mod and other changes, and the cooler is great if you keep the fan speeds down

LTT's fastest Valley 970, slowest Valley Basic and Extreme HD scores

Desktop || CPU - i5 4690k || Motherboard - ASUS Gryphon Z97 || RAM - 16GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz || GPU - Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 *Cough* 3.5GB || Case - Fractal Design Define R5 || HDD - Seagate Barracuda 160GB || PSU - Corsair AX760

Almost all the aftermarket 970s are very good. Popular ones in LTT are the Msi, Gigabyte, Evga and Asus cards.
