Intel or AMD? £1000 Budget

Quido

Hey guys,

I want to build a new GAMING pc for £1000. This has to include the system and monitor and a keyboard.

I dont know if it is worth going for Intel over AMD at this price point. People say that the i5 4670k will stomp and AMD chip including the FX 8350 in gaming but not in other things that require more cores. Then i have seen video's like Logans that show that the FX 8350 is just as good in gaming so you dont need to spend more money to get Intel.

I want you guys to help me down the right path, also people have been saying it is safer to go with AMD because the nex-gen consoles will essentially be a AMD based system therefore games will be better optimized for there software. Is this the truth as this will make my choice easier.

Intel :http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gD3u

AMD : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gD50

I could fit a 7970 with the AMD build and equal the price of the Intel build with a 7950.

I will only be playing on 1080p with at least 60fps on each game. The higher the settings the better. I think the monitor is a 60Hz monitor if that means anything in gaming.

Thanks in advance and help me get the right build.

I would get the intel system if you are comfortable O/C your 7950 since that card can easily O/C to 7970 performance.

I dont know much about overclocking GPU's and people say that overclocking GPU's is much harder than overclocking a CPU. So i want to try and avoid this unless i find out it is really easy.

if you oc 7950 is almost non existent difference between 7970 and 7950.

its your shot, id go with 8350 just because its 8 core, nothing else.

AMD build, CPU doesn't matter with 1080p as much as with lower resolutions. It'll be cheaper and you get a better GPU that you can overclock and games will run better.

overclocking the gpu is easier than a cpu, you just download msi afterburner, turn the voltage a little bit up and put everything to the max xD

Oh so it is easy. I will give overclocking a go but which build? The build should last for 2 years at least.

Definitely go Intel for the CPU.  I like AMD graphics cards, but their CPU's haven't been very competitive lately.  And as said above, overclocking a GPU is EXTREMELY easy.  You'd have to be a little crazy to not OC a GPU.

Overclocking the cpu isn't worth the big price gap in this situation imo. It gives you very little perceivable performance gain.

Personally, I would bump up the psu to make the system crossfire ready but that depends on you.

That is a nice build. Is the i5 4430 as good as a FX 8350 in gaming? Bear in mind i can overclock the 8350. To be honest i dont want to SLI/Crossfire and i would rather SLI because most people say it is much better. I like the RAM you found, fast and cheap. I want a quiet PSU and from some tests at 450w it is not as quiet i a hoped. I know the Fractal PSU is quiet but what do you think about the Cooler Master GX 650w : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RS650-ACAAE3-UK-GX-Series-Supply/dp/B0035QAKOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373899040&sr=8-1&keywords=cooler+master+gx+650

People in the reviews say that this is a very quiet PSU.

I dont need the DVD/CD Writer but might as well have it just in case.

Also for the GPU could i get an Asus 7950 and overclock?http://www.amazon.co.uk/DirectCU-Graphics-Express-Display-Technology/dp/B008NF3R1I/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1373899172&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+7950

Edit: Would getting a 760 be a good choice for the next-gen games?

Also would getting the i5 4670k be an improvement in gaming at stock speeds/overclocked?

Finally would this build be able to run games like BF4, Watchdogs, GTA V at 60fps, 1080p and at least medium settings? (Ultra or High if possible)

Thanks

H87 don't have overclock feature, so get the non-unlockable version.

And get the GTX 760, is cheaper and is benchmarks performs better than the HD 7950.

I now have 4 builds to choose from.

I want it too be as much as can be possible without loosing much performance under £1000. I actually want this to be a "best bang for your buck" Gaming PC. I think the gtx 760 is the best card £/performance wise and now it comes with Splinter Cell (The new one) It seems good. Also the MSI variant seems very good for overclocking.

I have 1 AMD build and 3 Intel builds. Please help me choose the right one.

AMD : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gUex

Intel : 1.http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gUa7

          2.http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gUay

          3.http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gUdO

Thanks in advance.

The 8350 would be better at gaming but with haswell you get a better motherboard.

From what you have said, it seems you wouldn't sli nor crossfire in the future anyway.

The cooler master psu is good--especially the gold plus rating.

I only added the dvd in case you wanted it. Take it out if you don't need it.

You could get a 7950 but if you want but you should get the cheapest one you can find. Same goes for the 7970.

You should be overclocking your gpu regardless of what gpu you got. 7970> 7950. You get what you pay for in this instance.

The 760 is a good card but the 7950 flat out beats it and overclocks better. The 7970, even more so.

4670k is the same as the 4430 but higher clocked and unlocked for overclocking. A 4670k is better than the 4430 in every way.

A 7950 should be able to play BF3 on ultra on average over 60fps. The 7970 should average at about 70fps.

As for BF4, it hasn't come out yet. I don't know... Probably. Your games will run fine.

So the build should be something like this?

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gZ3T

Or this build : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1gZc9

I think it will be better to get the intel build but i dont know if games will be optimized for 8 cores, so i think it will be safer to go with AMD?

The intel one is still under £1000 so it is ok if i buy that. Another thing do i have to go with the "k" model or could i go with a  i5 4570 and get the same performance in games? Would the fx 8350 beat the 4570?

Games will probably use more cores in the future. It'd be better to go 8350 since it's cheaper.

Also, for your 8350 build, you should be getting a 990X motherboard if you wanted to get a good overclock. Otherwise, just get a 8320.

For your 4670k build, you need a z87 board to overclock.

Would there be any difference getting an fx 6300 for gaming over the 8 cores?

Also would this be a good build as i have a better motherboard?

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1h0j7

I think i will stick to a 21.5 inch monitor

You should only really get a 990X mobo and a 8350 or any other mobo and a 8320, not a 8320 and a 990X mobo.

Games are becoming more and more threaded. The 8320/8350 is better than the 6300.

The point of the better mobo was to overclock the 8350 better but you switched it out with the 8320...

That and I'd probably change to an IPS panel as well. Good hardware is important but bad peripherals generally add up into a bad experience.

Recommend a good one for around the £100 mark?
