Dust Filtering?

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Tried with pantyhose and this is what I got:

-PIC-

What do you think? Is that good enough or i'm restricting airflow?

Yeah that looks really good, still pretty open for airflow, some of the pantyhose filters I've seen have a very tight weave so it doesn't let a lot of flow through.

Hi! I have a Corsair SPEC 02 case, with 3 fans in total (2 120mm Corsair front intakes, 1 120mm SickleFlow rear exhaust)

It comes with dust filters

aR3PEMHh.jpg

The left one covers the top and bottom of the case, the one in the right is covering the front of the case

So far I have been using pantyhose on the top of the front dust filter to filter moar dust, but i'm restricting airflow a lot.

What other material do you guys suggest or I should just leave it with the normal filter?

Thanks :D

Wow... How much airflow that things allow to pass? :P

Mine are rather fibery and thin (after use) and they are usually pretty easy on airflow. They are white though. If they dont work, try thin layers of open cell foam.

Edit: your profile pic is freaking hilarious.

Hmmm white. I will try, if I don't find them I guess it will be pantyhose again /:

I personally made my own filters using 20x20 Window screen for bugs. It's fine enough to capture most of the dust but still has good airflow..

Thanks!

My dad makes windows (not the OS, the ones that you have in your house). So he has lots of this metallic thing that doesn't let bugs come in.

Is the same thing that you're using?

The one is used is the fiberglass or flexible plastic type, it makes it easy to lay flat and attach to the case with some magnetic strips attached to the edges of the filter. I'm sure metal mesh will work too just make sure it's nice and fine since the 20x20 bug screen has a slightly smaller opening than regular window screen

Yup, it's smaller and that allows less dust to come in. The regular window screen and my front panel have almost the same openings, should I give it a shot or is not going to filter any dust?

I use an Air Conditioner Foam Filter on my Phanteks Enthoo Pro. http://www.amazon.com/Duck-1285234-Replacement-Conditioner-24-Inch/dp/B002GKC2USYou can buy this stuff at most any hardware store, or even Wal-mart. Get yourself some and carefully cut it to size to fit over your case intake areas. Once installed, just keep an eye out on your temperatures for awhile during heavy computer use to make sure your temps are staying at a safe level. If your temps become too high, then simply remove the foam and try something else. My case temps are fine, but each case is different and your mileage may vary. Again, keep an eye on your temps to make sure they stay at a safe level.

If it's about the same size opening I would try to get my hand on that fine mesh bug screen instead since there isn't much gained or something like the thin filter foam as Crosseyed Sniper suggested but will imped airflow a bit more.

Damn... I will look for aluminium mesh.

What about pantyhose? They restrict airflow that much?

Nice idea! Thanks, I will look for it, but I don't know if I can get them since that things aren't common in my country :P

I know that feeling. I am building my own 3d printer using metric everything. I live in 'merica.

I've never use pantyhose as filter material but as long as you get it stretched out nice and taught so the material is more open I don't see why it would be very restrictive. The hard part is getting it stretched and making it stay that way.

Tried with pantyhose and this is what I got:

What do you think? Is that good enough or i'm restricting airflow?

I'm in the US and thought you were too. My bad, but you should be able to find this type of foam in any country. Your country does have air conditioning, doesn't it? :D

Hahaha yup, is not that common though. People use fans instead of AC.

I will get that foam and see what I can get, it looks pretty promising, thank you :D

Great! I will use it for a month or two while I get the AC filters or the aluminum bug net that you have. Thank you :D
