SSD Vs. RAMDisk

I was wondering if it is better to have a larger SSD for boot driver/drivers/games or have a smaller SSD for just boot/drivers and use AMD's RAMDisk software for playing games

I would recommend a larger ssd if you can afford it. I have a 256gb ssd and hit 120gb used pretty fast once frequent apps and games got installed.

Yeah don't use a ramdisk. The actual speedup you get from having games on an ssd is next to nothing, so using a ramdisk is just silly. Plus every time you wanted to play a game you'd have to move the game to the ramdisk, which would get tedious and wouldn't save you any time in the end, unless you only play one game or something.

 

Also a 120GB ssd isn't big enough at all for games and an OS. Windows will use something like 30GB, less if you disable the paging and hibernation files. You'll probably have anywhere

from 5-50GB of programs, depending on what you use, plus a few gigs for files. That puts you between 40 and 80 gigs already, and a 120gb ssd is really only 111 or 112 gigs after formatting. Given that games are usually around 5 gigs, but ranging from a few hundred megs to an excess of 10 gigs, you will probably only have room for a dozen or so games on that SSD.

 

Even if you get a 256GB sdd (220 gigs or so after formatting), you still only have room for 30 or so games, which really isn't much. Unless you have room in your budget for a 512GB ssd minimum, then I would get a 1-2TB mechanical drive for games.

120 might not be enough for too many games, what i do is i have my SSD for windows/ big programs and maybe some multiplayer games where loading screen might matter, but all my single player games i install onto my HDD, do that if you dont feel like getting a bigger ssd
