In the market for a new card but I'm stuck for choice.

I'm a bit of a ROG whore as everything I own minus mouse and keyboard is ROG but I don't know if it will be worth it to spend an extra £150/$230 for the Matrix over the Strix when both will probably clock the same and have the same temps.

Need some reality check slaps please people ^_^

Matrix will give you a higher binned chip, but for $150, I wouldn't recommend it.

Go with the strix and put an ROG sticker on it. :P

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

I´ve read some test in a german tech magazin about overclocking both of the cards and what are the main difference after a maxmimum overclock!

The diffrence was at max 5% for the matrix, but most of the times both cards scored the same. If you want to spend 150$ for this little gain the matrix is your card. Otherwise stay with the STRIX. A lot test also say that this card is awesome!

Reviews like that are pretty dumb IMO, for the matrix to actually pull ahead, it'd need to be watercooled, or with some other type of cooling better than the stock coolers.

Chips that go into the matrix are binned for higher overclocks, but usually need better cooling to achieve said overclocks.

I don't know where you live but here in the UK right now, the 20th anniversary RoG 980 is on sale at Overclockers UK for the same price as the Matrix. It's being marketed as the fastest 980 on air ( and tbh seems to have the clock speeds to back that up )

Like Lays said, cards in the matrix range (such as the classified and kingpin) are meant for more extreme overclocking and if you aren't planning on at least watercooling, its not worth spending the extra cash for the matrix.

Thanks guys, 980 Strix it is, Looking at both for a while purely from an aesthetic point the Strix goes nicely with the rest of my build and the Matrix seems a little garish TBH :)
