I know this is a stupid question but is USB 3.1 backwards compatible

USB 3.1 Type-A is backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0 but not the new Type-C which is reversible.

 

Basically this ^^

 

also sometimes usb 2 things just don't work in usb 3 ports - i imagine it will be the same for USB 3.1 unless they fixed it

^ Exactly. Even some USB 2 ~<=>~USB 3, even more so if you try and boot from the device. I'm sure there will be some similar glitches as they move forward as well. Many things are in the dependency chain, BIOS, USB firmware, etc

Oh boy that chart really shows how much faster it is! So cheesy but I guess it is much faster from what I have heard. What's after the plane a Concord or will it be too fast and blow up.

Just keeping this here as a
