Reasons for both of your claims?

I don't like Corsair, their quality has plummeted in recent years and for some reason many PC users have failed to take notice, if people were living in reality they shouldn't still be successful off of their brand name.

Phanteks on the other hand is making some of the best cases money can buy, Corsair hasn't done that for years.

Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI are the 3 big guys when it comes to motherboards (and I recommend them in that order). There are quality issues with ASRock, but you get what you pay for.

The 4690 gives you 0.2ghz more for $20 more, that's not a bad deal.

200Mz is not a big deal in performance. Also Microcenter isn't selling the non K version of the 4690 so I'm saving a good amount there. I don't do MIRs either.

Refined version. About the case: Go what fits you best. That 500GB is a bit overkill for what other things you have. Asrock are known for being unreliable. Otherwise you're fine.

CPU: Intel i7-4790K @ 4.7GHz --- RAM: Lenovo 1600MHz 16GB --- MOBO: Gigabyte Z97-G7 --- GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0+--- PSU: Corsair CX600 --- Case: Corsair Air 540 --- Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 --- OS: Windows 8.1 --- Monitor: 24" AOC G2460P + Dell 19" --- Mouse: Logitech MX Perfromance --- Keyboard: Corsair K70 (Cherry MX Brown) --- Audio: Sennheiser HD558

Don't buy a GTX 980, it's overpriced! Buy 2 GTX 970s or 2 R9 290s intstead (the R9 290s would even be cheaper)

I wouldn't recommend getting either. Such large cases aren't optimal for airflow with so few components and might look rather empty.

What's with the lack of mass storage?

That SSD is poor, as is the EVGA NEX.
