What psu?

Go to solution Solved by a_block_of_wood,

yes im really wont be overclocking anything. I might get like one case fan but thats it. im also going to be using like 3 usb ports and playing relatively low powered games (by low powered i mean tf2 and like cs go or something) and just watching videos.

tl;dr : 430w will work, though not sure for how long. Safer to go 500w-600w but 430w is okay too, depends on usage.

430watt for your build will be enough... when the PSU is still new.

But remember one thing, the closer you push the PSU to it's limit, the faster it will degrade. When it degrade, it will not perform like when it is new. You are pushing quite close to the limit of the CX430, so there's really no telling what will happen.

Also, PSU is most efficient when you only pull around half the maximum power so I'd target that personally. If my machine's gonna pull 380watt, I'd get something 500-600 watt for various reason.

Although there's another argument where you'd want to get something not too powerful, especially if your pc is always on and idling. Lower wattage PSU would be more efficient for that.

I bought a 430 watt psu and my friends are telling me that im going to need more. I tried using various watt calculators but they all are giving me wattage that are all over the place. I'm also not sure if the watt estimate is accurate enough in pc partpicker. Thanks in advance!

that psu is pretty crappy...I might be a bit worried..

10$ says its dies on you within 2 years...and it might end up taking some of your hardware with it

Yeah, it's a really meh PSU.

Should've bought at least 550w since it's a CXM.

People say that you need larger in part because it takes into account getting a random crummy PSU from who-knows-where of unknown quality. Your system clocks in at 374W according to Partpicker. Get yourself an 80 PLUS-rated power supply and you should be looking at least at around a 470-ish Watt PSU (470 x 0.8 = 376). 500 should be fine, any more gives you extra maneuverability for other parts like extra hard drives, optical drives, etc.

I really don't want to go to all the trouble of returning it (because lazyness). Will there be any serious effects in the future if I use the psu? It is 80+ Bronze

it could kill your other hardware ...when it dies...not really even a question of "if...."

PCPartPicker estimates the max draw of your build at 374W. This means the CX-430M has about 13% more capacity than the components will ever draw at stock settings. Given the rest of the build, this is more than sufficient.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

This or if you can order from Newegg then this is even better for cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207032&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

If you're not overclocking though, CX430M is enough and you don't really have to get a new PSU.
