Narrowing it down to what I need for my setup.

Okay, well I'm trying to finally narrow my setup all of the way down to get my stuff in order.

What I still need is pretty much everything, I'll be getting the rest of the money needed to get it rolling sooner or later.

I'll be doing both video and still photos completely equal, I'm loving the sounds of the FZ1000 right now . Would that be good for me? I'll be spending <800 on cam+lens(es) which the fz1000 would eliminate the lenses and give more money straight into the camera. I do outdoor and hunting stuff for my sponsor and am looking to upgrade.

Next I need a mic, shotgun mic that is. looking to spend <100 simple as that.

Then I need a tripod and monopod, looking to spend <100 on both.

then SD cards are easy for me to pick and choose.

I'll need a waterproof cover for the camera to use while in the rain if that's a possibility.

Does this pretty much cover what all I need to film this year? is there anything that would be better for me around the pricerange for the camera+lens(es)?

I'm really liking the fact that the FZ1000 has a coverage in one lens that would take 2999$ in lenses to cover too.

What is your total budget for camera and equipment??

the fz1000 is an ok camera, but it has its limitations

For a shotgun mic - Rode Videomic GO is <$100

This could be a good tripod/monopod hybrid - and comes with a $170 fluid head!! - you can always grab some tripod legs later - and swap the head between the mono pod and tripod

Yeah, looks to be a good camera. But I'm really liking the 4K video on the FZ1000

4k sounds nice and all, but hell even hollywood films have used  1080p  DSLR cameras! don't forgot it takes up more storage, takes more computing power to edit and render etc

Good 1080 over mediocre 4k IMO, also the 60d will be better in low light thanks to its larger sensor, and you can get faster glass too

I'm completely new to this, but I'm really in need of 4k due to cropping and such with what I'm filming and how I am. I'm not going to always have a dedicated camera man to keep an animal in the shot when I finally release my arrow.

Very true, as an acquisition tool 4k does make sense

I'm really gonna be having to use this when filming as a set and hope I get something in the frame. I'm literally sneaking up and shooting elk and deer. also to deal with lenses and such seems like a big hassle to me. and if I don't like how it preforms for me I can always send it back to amazon I guess.

as for the mic I was looking at that rhode mic and it looks like it'd work great for me. The monopod I'm not so sure about with the price point that it's at. I'll have to look into mono/tri hybrid that's a big cheaper.

yeah true then the fz1000 might be the right choice also look into the sony rx10! it doesnt do 4k, but it the same sensor as the fz1000 - the benefit is that has a full sensor read out - so no line skipping  and also Auto ISO in video - meaning you will get the correct exposure - the FZ1000 lacks auto ISO which could be difficult to work with if you are running around in different lighting environments all day

Although I think the fz1000 can do this if shooting video in full automatic mode

the fz1000 might do the job for you

the reason is it has a fantastic fluid video head, which is worth the money IMO - perhaps if you are filming establishing shots and want smooth pans and tilts etc - its also very fast to set up!!

equally if you are just setting the tripod up in one place a cheaper tripod and head will work fine
