I am having issues with my current setup. I recently purchased a Titan X and noticed that idle temps are pretty high (around 66c). With 3 displays plugged in, my GPU core wont go below 900mhz and memory is at full clock (1700mhz). When I disconnect a display, my gpu downclocks and idle temps are around 30-40c.

Some notes: My monitors are - 1080p @ 60hz, 1050p @ 60hz, 1440p @ 96hz. I've tried both adaptive and performance settings in nvidia control panel with no luck.

Power savings are sometimes disabled when you go above two monitors. Check the card clocks and see if they're decreasing when at idle?

If they're staying at full throttle, that would be the reason for your temps.

**EDIT** After actually properly reading your initial post, I see that you've already discovered the issue.

With 3 monitors plugged in the core does not go below 900mhz idle, but as soon as I disconnect one of the displays it idles at ~135mhz

It is a stock cooler, it's is what we come to expect from them, a high quality heater,

But tbh if your budget allows try water-cooling that thing :D

I understand, this is with stock fan curve. If I use a custom fan curve I can get about 45-50 idle, but core clock still sits around ~900mhz

Sounds like a possible driver issue? Re download and try again. Could the 1050p monitor be causing issues? Try all monitors on native res. does it matter which monitor is unplugged or does this problem resolve itself when any is removed?
