Hey there folks! I am thinking about setting up a NAS at my house so I can keep back-up of school work, my mom's quickbook files, movies, pics, etc etc. I am going away to college in a year or so. Just finishing up my associates. SO my question is can I access the NAS from school wifi? I'm assuming not but figured I'd ask anyways.

you can access a NAS from anywhere on the internet - it might be blocked by your schools filters though

I use a Netgear ReadyNas so if you just looking to download and upload files then that can be used anywhere but if your looking for streaming data then look elsewhere.

No, streaming I don't care about. I'll have my main rig on campus with me. I've learned redundancy with school work is vital. I keep 4 or 5 back-ups of essays and projects. Better safe than sorry!!

Well I use a ReadyNas 104 which is a 4 Bay NAS which I mainly use as Time Machine Backups on my MacBook Air and my MacPro but all thats done locally but Netgear provides a website ReadyCloud which allows you to log into your NAS From any PC connected to the internet without any port forwarding ect ect.

If I remember correctly any ReadyNas can use ReadyCloud.

Hey Tasuma,

NAS is basically any storage drive connected to a router. And if that router has access to the Internet and it's set up correctly, you can have access to the storage from pretty much anywhere.
Prebuild NAS devices have additional feature and you can access them via apps on computers and mobile devices.
You can check out WD's NAS solutions as they have the WD My Cloud app and you can manage your storage space easily from pretty much anywhere: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=IaG6qu

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
