Good cheap mic for YouTube commentary?

PlayModeOn
Go to solution Solved by PlayModeOn,

Don't worry guys, I'm not going to buy a new $30 mic anymore.

Hello,

At uni we have a project where instead of writing essay we present our...work at a public domain (eg Youtube, powerpoint, blog, etc). One of the suggestion is to do a Youtube video so I'll do that.

I tried practising using my gaming's headset mic, and that was a bad idea, there is a lot of breathing and popping which is unpleasant. It is a cheap gaming headset and even the more expensive "gaming" headset is not that good either. Is there something at eBay I can find a decent mic for under $30? I know that seem to be a tall order but as long it is better than my headset mic than I am happy.

One of the things I found is this:

EDIT: and

I may know a lot about computers but I know very little about mics so I am not sure what is good or not.

I am currently using Senheisser HD 439 for audio and Turtlebeach Z11's mic for recording.

I live in Australia so adjust the cost accordingly.

HI cant find a decent mic for under $12?

of course not $12 is a ridiculously small amount of money

cheapest mic I can think of would be a behringer x8500 which is $20 and maybe the x302 usb mixer or a cheap xlr to USB cable

The Turtle Beach Z11 is fine.. Why are you trying to downgrade just for commentaries..

P.S It's cuz turtle beach is shit, I use my Tritton Detonators and they sound great for only costing me £30 like 3 years ago :P

Pop filters.  Those mesh things you put between you and the mic.

I'll just stick with my headset mic and stick those black foams on it to see if that helps.

Popping occurs mostly when you say hard letters like "P" "T" and "K", which move a lot of air into the direction of the mic, hence it can't keep up with the signal and you get your popping.

You can either use a pop-filter or try to get the mic out of the way. For saliva sounds you should tune down the sensitivity down and/or use Noise-gates.

The title did said "cheap" and changed the max price to $30 before he quoted me.  I also included some links to see what people think of them.

best to save up for something good :)
