Difference between 280x and 290 worth $50

Hey, was gonna buy a 280x for $350, but i am now considering the 290 for $50 more. Is it worth it for the performance?

The R9 285 isn't the 280x and 290 inbetweener.

It's inbetween the 270x and the 280.

Are you sure? Radeon really needs to realize that 285 doesn't numerically come before 280.

Firstly and in all reality I would wait for the 300 series cards. Even if it's just to see if it brings all the others down in price. Secondly be careful as the R9 285 is not as fast as the 280X. It does however support freesync which the 280X does not (as its based on older architecture). I would go for the 290 for the extra speed and the Freesync support. You may as well have the Freesync support if your going to be buying a new card. Then get another 290 when the CF support for Freesync comes along. :-)

thanks to everyone for the advice, do u know when the 300 series will be released and how much they will cost? it won't be a few months until i plan to buy the graphics card anyway.

AMD will announce/release their next gen on June at Computex. Probabably will cost an arm because of HBM and Hybrid cooler they use so keep your arm clean...

OK, I'll keep a look out and buy my graphics card last, maybe i'll buy the a 300 series. i don't think i'll have the money to buy it buy then.

i own a r9 290 and i run everything with it my friend runs a r9 280x he has litlle bit less  fps but not the biggest difference personly i would go for the r9 290 for the extra 1gb of vram because i mod like hell on skyrim

290 best bang for the buck card out there imo, but 400 $ ? Where you from LOL ?

Yep, 290 has a good 15-20% on 280x, well worth the money!
