Video Camera?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent video camera that has: 1080p, 60fps, and cost under $200? I like the Sony and Canon brands the most, but if there's something better than those two brands let me know.

Most DSLRs can't do 60 fps 1080p, some Nikkon can and I think 1 Canon.

actually a lot can and most can do 720p 60 and most handcam do 720 60i so 30fps anyway

You'd be better off buying a DSLR and then buying lenses. That'll cost you though.

Video recorders are generally quite crappy.

 

 

Most DSLRs can't do 60 fps 1080p, some Nikkon can and I think 1 Canon.

Huh? Most of the recent DSLRs do 1080p60 and 720p120.

What? Show me two or more under 1k CAD that can do 60 fps. Past 1500 or so you can find lots, also some Nikkon do more are but most Canons don't.

That's not true, most are actually really good. It just depends on lens and (more importantly) operator.

@ThatFatMan1911 The Canon PowerShot SX280 does 1080p at 60fps for under $200 so might suit your purposes.

They aren't scams (that I am aware of) but they certainly aren't necessary to get great video out of a DSLR. I've had commercials for my business shot on my Canon 550D (and look amazing). I've also done self shot stuff for web and my own amusement. Just because moire and aliasing exist (and are prominent in DSLRs) doesn't mean they can't be worked around. Indeed, getting a filter like that might solve one problem of DSLR video shooting.

are you crazy? 

 

besides the reason they exist is that lots of modern stills cameras have the AA filter removed for sharper photos, they just introduce aliasing and moire into video

 

that said, most modern DSLRs have decent video, and some have exceptional video

Nope an AA filter which is made for an 18MP+ sensor doesn't work at all if the image is down sampled by lousy line skipping 

 

 

 

that said, most modern DSLRs have decent video, and some have exceptional video

Thats true

 

Shot video on 600d, A33, etc and currently I shoot on my Sony A7 + my friends Nikon d800 (both using atomos ninja blade 2) and a 5dmk3 - all take decent video

As I said it depends on your standards. 

Just compare 720p Magic Lantern RAW with 1080p Canon H.264, nobody will say afterwards that the H.264 quality is great.

Doesn't mean the cameras are crap just the video codecs, if you have clean HDMI out which a lot do now, I record in Prores HQ

 

And honestly if not grading, h264 video looks fine, the bitrate is high enough for image quality, it will just fall apart in grading

No, but no one will actually see your RAW footage, it will be graded and then compressed to hell when it goes to market. All it does is give you more to work with in post, a skilled cinematographer will be able to work around most of the issues with DSLR, whether it be with lights, position or whatever else. Everyone is likely watching your video in H264.

Lucasfilm has used DSLRs in some shots side by side with REDs, as have plenty of other movies. They have issues, but for the most part take excellent video. The only reason I felt like I had to upgrade from my 550D to a Black Magic URSA is DSLRs lack of connections.

At any rate, the Op asked for a $200 solution, he's not going to get great video quality, but he will be able to get useable.
