New gaming pc

lagevogel

Hello,

I am from Holland and my old pc is starting to tear a bit down. It's giving me blue screens and window resets (the screen goes black for a few seconds and then it goes back to the game) and after a while it will do it again and then my ingame windows is just gone (have to restart the game or pc to play again. It also doesn't run the newer games that well and my i5 would go up to 100 degrees without a cooler (about 80 with one) and the GPU fan doesn't want to work on 100% any more so I guess its just getting a bit old.

I decided to buy a new pc and I would like to buy one that will last a while so I don't have to upgrade it for a while. I'm new to this site (I found it 2 days ago but I enjoy all the stuff thats on here) so I did some research on this forum and came up with the following:

I want to use it mainly for gaming, nothing else really. I also want to look into overclocking it (something I'm new to but I'm sure I can find out how to do it). If you could look over it and advice me some stuff to buy or not or suggest me some other build that would work good, You can also use pcpartpicker if its easier so I'll just find the stuff on dutch sites.

My budget is about 1500 euro's (can be more, less would be nice) and I only need the pc, no other stuff!

I'm not so good with the technical stuff yet, but I'm reading a lot and watching many videos to speed up on that so I don't know exactly what kind of PSU I need or how much RAM or what GPU to buy (there were 33 different gtx 970 on this site, I'm reading it has something to do with some being OC or have different coolnig) etc.

Thanks a lot for reading and helping already!

If your using it for only gaming then get an i5-4690k, it actually outperforms the i7 in gaming

Also you don't really need 16gb of ram, 8 is fine

Use the money you save to get a liquid cooler

@lagevogel

Depending on where you are from, EVGA warranty might not be the greatest.  I know it isn't in Asia that's why I got the Gigabyte G1 edition (which IMHO is the best option anyway :P )

The rest of the build looks decent.  You can save on RAM by going 8GB first, and if you need more, get another 8GB in the future.  8GB is plenty for games if you don't run 101 tabs on your browsers :P

An i5 will never outperform an i7 for gaming.  The only time this happens is if games don't utilize HT properly, and in many games you can turn HT off with game settings and effectively have a i5.  If you plan to ONLY game, the i5 is a better cheaper choice.

If you plan to do things like stream, encode, edit, maybe some animation etc etc then the i7 is the better choice.  i5 saves you quite a bit of cash too.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

For the RAM, generally just go for the cheapest set in the color you like from a good supplier.

There isn't a huge difference in mhz and CAS, unless you're doing memory intensive stuff.

I usually aim for 1866, CAS 9.

Go with a big name GPU, you'll get better warranty coverage. I'm a fan of EVGA.

MSI, Asus, etc are all good as well. It's best to watch and read reviews of each card you like the look and price of, and go from there.

Nothing's more powerful than researching these things yourself. :)
