I am trying to go for a silent optimized gaming/workstation build and i will be going with an i7 4790k which i will be overclocking. do you think i should go with an air cooled cpu heat sink (probably noctua) or a water cooled heat sink, something like the corsair h110i.

Thank you!

I was thinking more towards a NH-U14s with 2 fans, what do you think?

Adding the second fan doesn't do much unless you're doing so to compensate for very low speeds (<20%).

2 fans are pretty unnecessary. It's been proven that push/pull doesn't have a particularly significant effect on cooling capacity. But 2 fans will in a way double your fan noise (not exactly double since sound is measured on a log scale but you get the gist) while adding a degree less to your cooling capacity. For the optimal cooling and silence setup, go with the biggest air cooling heatsink you can reasonably get and fit a single Noctua on it.

do you think i could fit a dual tower heatsink into a fractal r5 case?

Sure, the R5 has plenty of room. Good luck finding a cooler that doesn't fit in that case.

I can definitely vouch for the NH-U14S, but just stick to one fan.

Intel Core i7-5930K | Noctua NH-D15S | ASUS X99-M WS | 32GB (4 x 8GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V 2666MHz | MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G | Samsung 850 Pro 512GB | Seasonic 660XP2 | Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV

LG 34UM95-P w/ Ergotron MX  | O2/ODAC | Audioengine A5+ w/ AS8 | Sennheiser HD 598 | Ducky Shine 3 | Cooler Master Storm Spawn

Second fan will add bit noise unless you get it run like mine does (0rpm with idle-> med loads, max 700rpm). Difference in max temp is about 5C, maybe 7C max.
