So, after I moved my system to a new case I realised it wouldn't boot, I checked and double checked all of the cables and everything was plugged in correctly. After a day of headaches I unplugged the power cable to check again but changed nothing, when I plugged the power lead back in I had accidentally left the mains switch on and It made a loud crack when I plugged it in to the power supply. I pressed the power button and it booted into a weird error screen, I hit the reset button and it booted into the OS as if nothing had happened.

Anyone have any idea what the hell happened?

Edit: I'm now experiencing more weird behaviour, my friend asked me to run a FF14 bench which caused my PC to BSOD, also when it's booting, sometimes it will boot into a weird menu which forces me to press F1, then it takes me to the bios where I select my SSD from the selection and it suddenly boots fine.... I thought it might have been the PSU before but now I'm not so sure.

Check your front panel connectors. They may be switched around.

EDIT- never mind, sorry, I accidentally skipped over the part where you said it turned on.

Did you ground yourself?

Yes, it all works as it did before, nothing was shorted. It's just a weird thing.

It's possible there may have been residual static charge left causing the motherboard to turn itself off for protection. Did you see the fans spinning up but no POST? If you encounter this situation again, try removing the power cable from the PSU and holding the power button for about a minute; this would discharge any remaining charge. It's possible that you may have over come this somehow when plugging the power lead into the switched on PSU.

I will definitely try that, since last night I switched the PSU off at the back because the power button LED keeps me awake and this morning the boot sequence gave a persistent red LED on the graphics card.
