Hi everone,

I just built a new computer and it's working fine for the most part with a few small problems I'm in the process of ironing out.

One problem is that it never boots directly into windows (8.1) when I start it.

It always starts to the Asus boot screen (where it tells me to press delete or F2 for setup, none of which does anything) and after a few seconds lands on the American Megatrends screen where I have to press F1 to go into BIOS. From the BIOS I can just press esc and it then boots into windows.

It's an Asus Maximus VII Ranger with an 4790k and 16gb HyperX savage DDR3 2400mhz.

Can anyone tell what the problem might be?

Thanks

From the BIOS you need to set Boot priority to be your SSD / Hard drive (wherever your windows is installed) to be #1, not BIOS.

The pc halts because there is an error somewhere, and you need to press f1 to continue, so check why it halts, and fix that.

PC should say why.

I have an older PC with a Pentium 4 on the LGA775 socket, and it does this too.

I installed windows on my 850 evo and boot prio #1 is the same.

On the american megatrends screen the only error it gives is "cpu fan error" which I suppose happens because I don't actually have a fan but the h100i gtx (which works fine afaik), I cant see any other errors.

Also I could add that my HDD shows up as a boot option but does not show up in windows, is that related to this in some way?

disable CPU FAN warning.

wow that worked, I feel a bit silly if that was all it took LOL

I thought that since I didnt even have a fan that it was normal to get that error, and that it wouldn't be a big deal!

Thanks a lot
