So I'll be upgrading form the g3258 to an i5 in the near future so as i always do I went to add it to my amazon cart to catch any deals. What I didn't realise is that there are several different i5's on the market and as i can not be bothered to look through the specs of each one to compare them it would be good if someone more in the know could just list the differences for me and perhaps advise me on which one to get. i will be OC most likely not dramatically probably just in the range of 4.2 - 4.6ghz. Any knowlege would be much appreciated.

First two links are the same. You can only overclock(easily) with the 4690K.

Well only "k" series ones can be overclocked, and that is only officially supported on z87/97 motherboards. The only other difference between them is that they have different clockspeeds.

i can not be bothered to look through the specs of each one

What? There's bound to be some sort of colloquial Scottish meaning behind that statement that I just don't understand, because to me that sounds pretty arrogant. "Shopping for things that I want to buy is beneath me. I bet some other peasants will do it for me."

oops must not have copied by mistake so it's easier to OC 4690 than the 4670? just from a quick look over the specs the only differnce I could see was .1ghz clock difference?

nope that's about the gist of it :) why put time in to something when you can find someone who already has. No but really I was just looking for a bit of help I will obviously do more research when I get round to buying it.

Because it makes your brain bigger? Makes you a better person? It's not insulting to any one that would help you? That's a pretty low thing to do and then admit to. I hope you grow out of that phase of your life.

Is it definitely only supported on 787-97 I have a z81M-E board would be pretty annoying if I had to get a new Mobo?

You probably would, if you wanted to overclock anything but the g3258. There have been cases over h97 being able to overclock other CPUs, but that isn't official. I would either get the cheapest 4th gen i5, or get a 4690k and an msi z97 krait. There is also the option of getting a xeon 1230 v3 or higher which would be overclockable,  but would have hyperthreading.

I don't think it's that bad to ask for help on a forum I know I want an i5 but I just didn't know there were so many and didn't want to make a mistake. I'm always helping out others on here so I feel like I'm allowed some help in return. I will usually research most everything I do and not to toot my own horn or anything but I'm actually pretty intelligent :P

Agreed. It's not bad to ask for help, but there are more diplomatic ways of asking for it.

You may get a slightly higher overclock with the 4690K. Remember, in order to overclock easily, you want a K series CPU.
