So I just built my new rig,

an x99 rig with an EVGA 980 FTW Edition but im really not liking that the idle temp of the card is according to CPUID HWMonitor is between 50 all the way to peak at 62 celsius ive also seen it as low as 30 but standard its usually above 50.

Is this nortmal or should i reutrn it?

I will add that this is without any custom fan curve or whatsoever.

I have no idea if EVGA cards have a 0% fan profile, but if it does, then that's what's causing the high idle temps.  Doesn't really matter if on load it doesn't go near dangerous levels.  That's the whole point of 0% fan profiles (if in fact it does have that).

I haven't tried EVGA PrecisionX yet but it's bugging me since all the reviews ive read that have reviewed the Supercloocked version states a signifcantly lower temperature but then agian the fan preobably spins more than my card does. The highest ive seen when i push it is 78.

Another thing that ive had problems is GTA V, i keep getting the ERR_INIT_D3D error from time to time or just random crashes to desktop or even resets sometimes. But my mobo "Asus Rampage V Extreme" idles at 25 celsius and my CPU is cooled by a Noctua NHd15 and the temperature is below 30 in heavy loads.

My case is a Cosmos 2 with the sidedoor x2 Noctua FLX 120mm fans mounted, i thought that would make a reasonable difference.

Under 70? Fucking amazing. It's great.

Ehm, yeah the highes tive seen is 62 and thats in idlemode more or less.

Do you have FRAPS running?  That has been causing some issues that look similar to yours.

No sir, only GTA V and x3 1080 displays but i only run the game on one fo those.

Yeah your card is fine.

Sounds like i actually can get a second then, Will that increase the voerall temperature?

It will, but it depends on card spacing and case airflow.

I don't know if there is anything i can do to improve it but as it is currently i have a 200mm Cooler Mastert fan in the front for intake and x1 Noctua 120mm and 1 120mm Cooler Master fan in teh top to blow out air and a rear fan to help the CPU cooler and x2 Noctua fans on the sidedoor to help cool the gpu. Currently though I have my 980 in the third slot on the motherboard becuase if i put it on the 1 slot it's pretty much being pushed up towards the cpu cooler. Im not sure if thats a good idea

Sounds like you'll have a problem running sli then because one of the cards needs to be in that top slot.

Damn, im not sure if i can have a card pushed against the cooler, it's not like i have to push it hard against it. But it is against it a little.

Jeez that's a massive cooler.. :/

What's your motherboard?

Asus Rampage V Extreme

I can still replace it but i don't want to replace the Noctua with a liquid cooler, ive had Noctua for 6-7 years and im so damn happy witht hem but if i cannot fit a SLI in the motherboard the whole mobo is kinda pointless.

On Reason I never really liked the ROG boards was for this very reason. They put the main PCIe 16x slot at the very top, so you'll conflict with a lot of coolers. If they moved it one down then you'd have no problem. You could use the second and third slot but then you'd be starving your top card of some air and it'll run in the mid-80s.

Yeah, that's indeed something I might look into changing,. but don't you think i can put the card on the top slot?

It's something im really worried about if i can put SLI in there or not......I should have chosen another board.

Just out of curiousity if my eyes arent playing aprank ojn the but arent the top card there pushed very very close ot the cooler if not agianst it?

Here's a piocture, will i even fit SLI onto there?

If not ill probb have to either replace the mobo or the cooler which i neither want to do.

Idle temps don't matter.

As long as load temps are within 70-80 you're doing great.  The card is fine up to 94 degrees so there's a lot of headroom.

You have lots of room for the second card.

So you think i can actually move my current card to the top spot which will msotleikyl be touching the cooler and still be fine?

I can also confirm that the fan has a 0 RPM profile which does explain why iot gets so hot.
