The pic shows an 8 pin and a 4 pin cpu power connectors. The ax1200i only comes with a single 8 pin for the cpu. The motherboard manual does not explain whether or not both the 8 pin and 4 pin need to be powered. I think I only need to plug in the 8 pin but I’m not 100% sure so and ideas?

thats right to use ur pc u just need to plug in the 8 pin connector! the 4 pin is an auxiliary connection allowing u to provide extra power to the motherboard for stable overclocks!! considering uve bought an AX1200i and an rog motherboard i would suggest u use both!! :)   u should be able to get decent overclocks depending on ur intel chip!!

CPU: Intel i7 4770k @ 4.4 ghz; Mother Board: MSI Z87 Mpower Max RAM: 32(8x4) gb Corsair Vengeance (2400mHz); Graphics: Dual EVGA GTX 780 SLI; CPU cooling: NZXT Kraken X60; Case: NZXT Phantom 820; PSU: OCZ ZX 1250w; Harddrives: Corsair Force 240gb (OS) Samsung 840 series 120gb ssd; 1 tb wd blue, 3tb seagate barracuda.

Thats my plan but the ax1200i doesnt come with any 4 pin cables.

I hate it when they put more than a p8. There is no point at all unless you have another cpu to power... A p8 is rated for.. what, 40A? That's 480W (should never, ever go near the rated spec though..). Which is more than most whole systems will draw from the psu.

I take that to mean i couldnt possibly need it them, right?

You could need it and you should be able to find info on the board online. I know Asus has a phone too :P (give them a call)

I'm sure modding a pci-e cable into a p4 is something that's been done before. You could use a dual Molex to p4 adapter, it'll be kind of messy though. ...Why do engineers have to add more than needed? If it ain't broke, add more features?
