Hey guys! Sorry if this doesn't belong here :/

Basically i have a MSI GT60 2OC-003US, i have two questions regarding it.
First, I just bought a 27" monitor to plug into my notebook via HDMI. Now I have heard that the dedicated GPU (Mine is the GeForce GTX 770M) is not meant to be used at all times, however, when i plug in my HDMI to the monitor, the power light goes from white to orange indicating that the dedicated card is being used. Is there any way to make it so that it uses my integrated card instead of my dedicated? I am going to have my monitor connected at all times so i don't want it to be running off of my GTX.

And also, if i am gaming or have a monitor plugged in, and i stop gaming or unplug the monitor, the orange light should go back to being white since the dedicated gpu related programs are closed, yet it still stays orange? Wondering how i can fix that.

Thank you lots! smiley.gif

Looks like the HDMI is hard wired to the nvidia gpu, once a hdmi is plugged in, it runs on the dedicated video card. Nvidia Optimus is automatic, so I guess it cannot be set to run with onboard. AMD's Dynamic Switchable Graphics, similar to Nvidia Optimus can let users manually set the gpu they want to use.

You should be able to play with Nvidia Optimus settings, favouring power settings?

If you choose to run at a lower resolution, does it still use dedicated?

I tried with a lower resolution, no luck :/

So there is no way for me to use my integrated with hdmi? If i do however decide to use my hdmi at all times with my dedicated graphics card, will it cause any damage to it? :/

Thank you!!

Haven't heard about a HDMI being plugged in at all times will damage a video card. A dead video card will most likely caused by overheating or simply it's just old. Nothing last forever, they all break at some point. Try this, disable the Nvidia GPU via device manage and see if HDMI still works or go into the bios and see if there are any options in there. Can you run on VGA, maybe VGA is from onboard?

I tried VGA, it works with onboard graphics, im just guessing a this point HDMI is hard wired to my nvidia gpu -_-

Last question sorry, i mentioned earlier that when in fact i do use my nvidia gpu, the light goes from white to orange indicating it is now in use. When i quit what i was doing, the light still stays orange and the gpu remains on, i know its on because i use speedfan and it shows my the fluctuating temperatures for my nvidia meaning its on. Any way i can make it switch back to integrated without having to restart my notebook everytime? I tried ending all programs that are using the nvidia yet it still doesnt work.

Thanks! :/

Unless the hdmi is physically unplug, the light will always stay orange. Nvidia optimus is automatic, maybe it needs time before it switchew back to onboard graphics?
