P.S: The 9500 GT is probably dead.

Hi all

So basically, the predicament is that i have saved my fathers old desktop by taking it for myself. I completely deconstructed the entire case, cleaned off all the pin connectors, the thermal paste that was already old and crusty at the time, cleaned some of the I/O connectors and reconstructed the case with better thermals showing near instantly.

Ive come into 2 problems right now (three if you count the fact i dont know what to do with it yet :P). They are:

1. The graphics card

2. The monitor

Just for the techies that would like to read further than this, Here's the specs of the PC:

Graphics: 1x Onboard Intel G33/31 Express Chipset
                1x Leadtek PX9500 GT 512MB GPU

CPU: 1x Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz

Ram: 2x 1.00 GB Dual Channel DDR3 (332MHz)

Storage: 1x 500GB Western Digital Caviar Black 3.5"

Motherboard: 1x Acer EG31M

Display: 1x Samsung Syncmaster 732NW 17"
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit

Ok. Now to get more into the problems.

The graphics card: The computer boots off fine without the graphics card. However, when I put the graphics card into the PCI-Express slot and secure it in place, and switch the computer on - the computer starts up, But no display is shown. I tried plugging my TV into the motherboard's VGA connector, and into the graphics card's VGA connector. To no avail. I thought it was a problem with the TV, but when i tried it on the Samsung Syncmaster monitor, it did exactly the same. I've also tested it with another VGA cable. I however can unfortunately not test it with an HDMI cable as we don't have one (Weird, irk? House of techies and there's not 1 HDMI cable :P?).

I have however been told by someone that it could be a driver issue. I immediately started digging up the internet for a driver for this graphics card. I came apon many results, but they were all for Windows XP and Windows Vista 32-bit. I couldnt find a single driver for it for Windows 7 32 bit, and on the odd chance i did, how would i evens install it if no display powers up while the graphics card is inserted into the motherboard? Theres 1 more thing about the graphics card and that is that there is a very tiny, 2 pin connector on the side titled "DATA GND". I took it that the GND stood for Ground. So im getting the idea that there is some kind of cable involved or supposed to be? I however don't have any cables nor did any come with the computer or the GPU for it. Also plz dont recommend to get a new graphics card because that is light-years away from my current budget of 0  dollars, lol.

The monitor: Because of the graphics card not being able to be connected, the monitor is running off of the on-board graphics. The on board graphics does however not support the resolution 1440x900 at 60Hz,  and i cannot select it or custom change it on windows "Screen Resolution" interface as there isnt an option in the normal menu or the Advanced settings. It is currently on 1280x960 at 60Hz. Changing it to anything else will give the error: "Not optimum mode. Recommended  mode: 1440x900  60Hz [?]"

Sorry if i rambled on about something rather small if its a tiny problem. I appreciate all the help and attempts of help :)

tried that graphics card in another computer? if you dont have another computer yourself, ask a friend or something.

I'd need to upgrade the Powersupply for that though. I think i will keep it as a HTPC or a File Storage PC for now.

unless you have the crappiest psu of all psus, you don't need to upgrade your PSU for that.

The 750ti has no PCIe Power requirement, and draws everything from the 24 pin.

Oh, didnt know that. I will consider it but right now a graphics card isnt on my budget right now. Need to focus on paying for my studies :)
