Hey guys,

I was hoping to get some help in building a Workstation PC

1. Budget & Location

The budget for the build is around $3000 US maximum for all the components, (including monitor, keyboard, OS). I'm from India so not every part will be available.

2. Aim

The PC will be used for of 3D rendering, video editing VFX, Adobe Master Suite will be loaded as well as 3DS max. It will not be used for gaming

3. Monitors

Initially running a single 1200p screen, however looking to acquire another two in the future.

4. Peripherals

Keyboard nothing fancy, very simplistic, basically I will NOT be using it for gaming and only general use. Monitor - Dell 23" Ultrasharp Widescreen 16:10 IPS screen

5. Why are you upgrading?

I will be studying VFX and 3D Animation, I need a system with a decent entry - mid range workstation PC to deliver that performance.

6. List of components

The following components are ones I have picked out:-

Intel Xeon Processor E5 Series(Not sure which one to go for)

Intel Workstation Motherboard(Don't know which would have good expand-ability for future upgrades)

nVidia Quadro K4000 Graphics Card

Corsair Vengence 16GB/32GB RAM OR G.Skill 16GB/32GB RAM(I do not require ECC RAM as I will not be utilising it to it's full potential

Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD (No SSD for now, will be adding it later on)

Cooler Master HAF-X Case

I would like to know which Xeon processor and which Intel Workstation motherboard to go for as I do not know much about workstations... I want a decent Entry - Mid Range Workstation.

Thanks guys... I appreciate the help.

If you mention any different parts please mention why you chose it.

I think you should go with a xeon e5-2603 paired with a SuperMicro MBD-X9SRL-F-B motherboard. They are both less than USD$450

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D
