Dell 24" Full HD monitors

Boyka

I'm looking for some of the best & decently priced Dell 24" 1920x1080 monitors.

Any recommendations? I'm currently eyeing on these 2 products, other than these 2 are there any better monitors?

Dell S2415H & U2414H

Which should I get?

U 2414H is better. U version is the highest in Dells naming scheme. If you can find an older model on discount U2412M is also a good all arounder. If you can find u2410 that is even better.

And have in mind that thes are 1200p (16x10) resolution which is awesome for productivity.

I recently bought the U2414H. It's a beautiful monitor.

As for the differences between the two monitors:

  • U2414H comes with a factory calibrated colour profile for very good accuracy
  • S2415H comes with a built-in speaker
  • U2414H has 2 HDMI ports, 1 Mini DisplayPort, 1 DisplayPort, Audio Line Out and a USB 3.0 hub with 4 ports
  • S2415H has 1 VGA port, 1 HDMI port, Audio In and a headphone jack
  • U2414H has a 8ms GTG response time
  • S2415H has a 6ms GTG response time

To summarize those specs: U2414H is better. Get it if you can get it for the same price.

Great for productivity, not so great for games and media. A lot of older games won't understand 16:10 and you'll be forced to use 16:9 with bars. And naturally the same will happen with 16:9 video content.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.

Don't forget the U2414H has an adjustable stand and anti-glare finish, while the S2415H has a glossy panel and basic stand.

Also, 16:10 is not really bad for gaming, and I've never encountered a game before that didn't support 16:10 ratios. Even if you have to play with black bars it's not like you're any worse off than if you just got a display which was permanently that resolution. Also old games LOVE 16:10 resolutions like 1920x1200, because they support the old max 4:3 res 1600x1200 natively.
