Hey folks,

I was looking at the AMD A10-6800k and I was wondering if pairing this with a graphics card in a computer build would yield better results than a CPU with a GPU.  I certainly like the operating frequency of the A10 but if that doesn't mean much given that it's an APU then it may change my opinion on it.

Thanks for any tips y'all can provide, sorry if this question is something a little silly, I'm not quite a professional.

An APU runs independently from the GPU. Meaning, that you're either using the APU OR the GPU, not both. So I would recommend getting the strongest single CPU you can for FM2+, which is currently the 860k, or if you haven't bought any parts yet, I would recommend getting an AM3+ motherboard and picking up a FX 8320.

Genereally a cpu + gpu is better than cpu + apu if all you do is game.

But depending on your budget and what you are going to do for example if you only game a little bit. Then the apu might be worth thinking but most of the time I would go with cpu and gpu.

What if in the future you can sli a apu and a gpu O.o

Unless AMD pulls their head out of their arse and makes stronger CPU cores, nothing, it would be like asking if you could pair a 760k with crossfire r5 230s. y mus i cri AMD ;_;

I would recommend getting a FX 4300/50 and a AM3+ board over the FM2/+ a10/athlon APU/CPU's.

APU's are only worth it if you dont have enough money for a GPU.

The A10-6800k and 760k are the same, The only difference is that the 760k doesnt have graphics integrated.
