Its an issue with the 970. If you find a fix let us know cause both my friends with 970's are having the same problem. A long with hundreds of other people.

What's the overclock? Mine only does that when it destabilizes (which is often).

300+ on core and 250+ on vram

Well that's the issue then... Most 970 OCs top out around +150 to +175, you went and doubled it.  That OC can no way be stable.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

Those secondary details. Totalbiscuit did a video on the port, and apparently the optional extras will occasionally spike the VRAM. Not really an issue with my 980, but the fact that the 970 registers as 4GB, so GTA doesn't restrict it, and then it hit's that 3.5GB softish limit, and yeah, hello mister blue (or green) screen.

i have gone over 3.5 gb on gta5 with no crash, just barely over. there seems to be a huge split on cards if they run right or not.they must of looked over a common program and its cause all kinds of problems. I haven't crash after the newest patch.

Any advice I can offer is anecdotal as I've yet to have an issue with GTA, and I run a 980. Merely relaying what a well respected Games journalist recommends. (basically resetting options to defaults). The issue seems to lie in the advanced graphics options?

i have that maxed out, some of them affect it more than others, Nvidia did a guide that's worth read. i have a friend with a 980 that runs lower setting than i and even called it bs that i had advanced setting on. performance  is all over the place. i'm sure it will be fixed sometime, it is really hard to offer advice when we have so little to go on. what setting are you running, if you don't mind me asking.

Yeah..... that overclock is the problem, a safe everyday overclock is +150 core, +400 memory, and the lowest voltage possible without games crashing to the grey screen (+12mv should be fine, but you might need a bit more).

1080p   msaa: off

Everything else maxed out, and on.

Yeah people told me a 980 was overkill for 1080p. The fact that I'm having zero issues with any game I've ever played on ultra/max settings means I'm happy with my purchase.

GTA has never been about pushing the limits graphically, and lets not forget that skyrim wasn't that pretty to begin with until people started putting out mods that made some peoples graphics cards burn a horrible fiery death. Actually the game I've been most excited about from a graphics standpoint lately is the vanishing of ethan carter. Can't be assed playing it, but it shows what a properly optimised game can do on modern hardware.

Damn this game crashes so often.

Seriously Rockstar, you get 2 years to polish a game and it still crashes every 1 hour or so?

Jeez.

I'm hoping. I sort of trust projekt red to get it right, but the fact that they've been offering it on preorder for the last 9 months leaves me a wee bit worried. 10% discount is nice, but I'm happy to pay extra for the guarantee that the game actually works (being sold on origin is a major worry as well)
