weird question

Go to solution Solved by AlwaysFSX,

So it is possible. Just wanted some clarification. I'm just deciding if I should get it. I really won't need it, as I'm getting a Xeon processor, but down the road I do plan on buying a 4790k and swapping out my Xeon for use in a freenas system, but at this time my budget is keeping me at the Xeon price range. I'd get a 4690k, but want the hyperthreading for the stuff I plan on doing.

You'd have to overtighten the ever living hell out of the cooler to warp the motherboard.

OK, I was just on pcpartpicker.com and a poster was talking about the weight of the hyper 212 evo warping the mobo. Thought I'd come here and ask if that is actually an issue, or if the way its mounted to the mobo with the brackets designed to keep the weight evenly distributed? I am getting one for my build and want to know.

It's not likely to happen with the 212 Evo. It's not a heavy cooler(relative to other air coolers).

It's entirely possible for that to happen, but mostly with much heavier coolers. I've never seen a 212 EVO warp a motherboard before.

There is a lot of members who are using the hyper 212 evo and they all say it is great cooler with no issues of it warping there motherboard,I can not say for my self as I been using AIO coolers on all my builds.

Now as AlwaysFSX mentioned the only really way your motherboard could actually warp is by over tightening the bracket.so be sure you do not do this and you be good to go all you need to do is firmly tighten..

Yeah, I will tighten it just enough. I know not to overtighten anything on a mobo. Thanks for the input.

NP, My suggestion is I would go ahead and get the hyper 212 evo you should not have any issues with it as long as you install it correctly which you should have no issues installing it,as I stated there is a lot of members here who use and they would tell you to buy the hyper 212 evo..

I used the Hyper 212+(very similar cooler) on two motherboards. No warping issues. It installed with no issues as well.

That is good to know. I'm also getting it because it will add to the look of my computer, that I'm also using as a teaching tool for my 14 yo son. It's going to be a father and son project. I know he wants to show it off too.

By the way, love your name. It is a good name.

Thanks. I chose it for this forum and have been sticking with it throughout most things online. Definitely encourage your son to get a good education and help advance society.
