So I recently found out about the thin/light gaming laptops from MSI such as the MSI GS60.

I am looking for a powerful i5 or i7 CPU, 12 or 16gb ram, 15.6 inch screen and I prefer 128gb ssd + 1tb hdd. (GPU is not that important to me) and the MSI seems to meet all the specs.

Is the MSI GS60 "too good to be true" ?

I heard from different people that there is something wrong with the yellow color on the screen, is this a real issue?

I'd like to know whether there are problems with this laptop such as the screen that I need to take in account before buying, because according to the specs it's an amazing laptop.

I have an older version gs70, and its pretty good. It does not match the build quality and craftsmanship of the razer blade or a macbook imo, but it is also cheaper.

hardware wise, there is not anything inherently wrong with it, other than a pretty bad matte coating on my model that sort of ruined an already poor monitor, but i believe the newer versions of the laptop come with an ips panel, which will help that problem.

the fan also tends to kick up when im not doing very much, like on the desktop, however that is nitpicking...

Aside from the fact that they use HQ chips which have various power limitations, and that the machine is not designed for medium CPU load and above, it's otherwise fine.

If you are looking for a machine which has a powerful CPU that you're going to put under heavy loads like 3D model rendering or video rendering of high bitrate, low compression source footage, etc? You're not looking for a thin laptop. Period. There is no arguing this fact. They WILL all overheat and throttle. Or maybe some like the Lenovo Y50 will throttle before it overheats or hits its power limits, even.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I will be running virtual machines most of the time in which Eclipse (for java), as i'm starting a study as programmer this summer. VM's will require some cpu power but it's not that much as with 3d/rendering etc (as i'm not going to be a game-developer).

Not sure what to take yet.. i'll need it to be as portable if possible as i'll travel with it 2hours a day.

Basically what I want is a notebook preferebly around 2kg, 12-16gb ram, a good cpu, SSD for OS, 0,5 or 1TB hdd for storage and Idc about the GPU.

The newest razer blade looks awesome, 14inch (portable) and specs are amazing.. but I have the feeling that I pay a lot of money for that GPU in there.. while I don't need it.

-snip-

well go ahead with the GS60 then. The razer blade is just a waste of money honestly, for what you get in it. There's no counter to that.
