So my build my issue is that when I overclock my cpu beyond 4.4ghz it runs test fine (prime 95, OCCT) but then when I open a twitch stream or something minor it freezes the whole computer forcing me to hard restart the PC. I really want to watch streams and random videos, but also have better frames in-game, what do I do? But I can play games at 4.7-8 ghz all stable (except league for some reason)

PC specs

CPU- FX 6300

cpu cooler- 212 hyper evo

motherboard- m5a97 r2.0 update 2501

gpu- r9 290

ram- gskill 8 gb cl9

psu- evga b2 850w

You can increase the VCore (watch temperatures, also it can decrease lifespan) OR decrease the clock speed.

I've tried that and it's still unstable with twitch streams, and seems to generate alot of unnecessary heat when running benchmarks if the benchmarks work stable with lower Vcore.

Try reducing the clock speed.

BIOS Update? It helps CPU compatibility.

I tried it, and it did not work. I ran the stream for about 10 seconds.  -_-

Hmm that's very bizzare.

Sometimes 100% stable doesn't mean 100% functional. Overclocking is a grab bag of success. Sometimes you come out with a shiny golden trinket. Sometimes its a turd.

My 4670K for instance has been rock solid at 4.5 for a couple weeks now. Just last night? Two blue screens in a row. Knocked my multiplier down a step to 4.4 and reduced voltages. Stable again.

Grab bag.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

But I'm still boggled as to why it works with games and heavy resource needing tasks but freezes on a twitch stream, or fb video.

Maybe try to lower the quality of your stream?

My friend had this problem. Does it happen with flash only? Or is it whit all videos. Try html5 on youtube if it works then it's flash then downgrade it to 15

Thank you so much man, allthough you did not solve the full extent of the problem you solved it 99%. I got only 0.2 ghz more clock speed out of it and twitch and stuff would not crash other wise it worked out really well and ran the tests well thank you!!! you are a god send. :D
