Temperature difference between Athlon and Phenom

Hi all

 

I'm looking into getting the Phenom x4 9550 quad core next month and i'm planning on bumping up the clock speed to 2.7Ghz from 2.2Ghz, from what i have read this is a easy overclock with with chip so you're asking yourself "where is the question about temperatures?" well here it is.

 

I have a Athlon 64 x2 5200+ and i'm cooling it with a Coolermaster cnps10x cooler (with the stock single fan) and i wanted to know is the temps better on the phenoms then the Athlons? meaning do the phenoms run cooler then the Athlons by any chance?

The Phenom II and Athlon II share similar architectures (stars core). The Phenom II chips will run a little hotter because they pack a large L3 cache which produces a bunch of extra heat. Although I've never heard of heat issues with either of them. Only problems I've seen is when people try unlocking a Phenom II to a 6 core on a crappy 3+1 phase VRM motherboard.

You should probably change the title then, and I don't have much of an idea as my PIII lasted me a long time.

I'm not sure if the 5200 is a 125 tdp chip like the 6000+, but if it is, it should produce the same amount of heat as the 9550 which of memory serves me right us also 125w.

The 5200 and 9550 are both 95w chips so i take it they will have the some temps then?

Some people just skim, perhaps (5200+ vs 9550) at the end.
