Hello all,

My first LTT thread! YAY..

I am building a thread for a family friend. He is a senior engineer and will be running mainly work programs. He said that most/all of his software is CPU intensive rather than GPU intensive. He also wants a smaller case rather than a huge case. We live in Sydney, so all prices in AUD. Budget is $ 2,000 and excludes monitors and peripherals

This is what I have come up with, please let me know how I could improve this build:

  • Case BitFenix Prodigy M Case White with Window $ 125
  • CPU Intel Core i7 4790K $ 469
  • Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H Motherboard $ 179
  • Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 $ 179
  • HSF Corsair Hydro Series H80i CPU Cooler $ 149
  • 4 Fans Corsair Air Series SP120 Performance Edition Case Fan $ 88 ($ 22 each )
  • GPU Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 OC Low Profile 2GB $ 169
  • SSD Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB SSD $ 229
  • Total: $ 1,587       $ 1,418 w/o GFX

Since the GFX is not really needed and the CPU and MOBO support onboard Intel HD4600 Graphics, is a GPU really needed? The onboard GFX supports dual monitors too which is what he is after.

Really appreciate any input given by you all!'

Cheers!

* Edit:

I forgot the PSU: I am thinking of Modular and this one:

Corsair cx 600modular 80+ bronze PSU $ 115. What do you guys think?

swap the corsair fans for something else, they blow air alright, but get loud, fast.

Other than that i see no problems here, very solid all around build.

hey there,

Thanks for the quick reply! How about these for the fans: Corsair Air Series SP120 quiet edition case fan?

Also this question is for anyone, will the onboard GFX card be enough for 2 monitors? As in will it cause any stutter since the unit would be supporting 2 monitors?

Thanks.

You'd need to split the single dvi to dual display, but im not sure that can be done,

<- not the biggest monitor or display guy

If anything you can pickup a super cheapo enterprise grade display card for like, $50 max at some tech shop if you need dual displays.

Corsair quiet edition fans are much quieter, but still suffer from reduced performance due to their circular shape reducing air-flow efficiency, though that's minimal when not being used with radiators. So in this use-case then they should be great.
