What is the best and cheapest bang for your buck GPU that can run the next 2-3 year AAA games releases?

well 2-3 years is pretty long for a gpu but I guess 970/r9 290x is a good card

280x/290/290x/970 I'd say depending on budget even a 285 will be good enough.

JayzTwoCentz predicts the 970 to be a 4-5 year card, at least from launch.

The 970 and 290x are both slotted in roughly the same price range and will deliver roughly the same performance (overall).  Not sure how DX12 is going to change that.  Either card is recommended, but it's really hard to "future proof" stuff like this.  My guess would be that you're going to be fine going with either one.

I got a r9 290 new for 200 euro 290 is a very nice card for the money
