Hello,

I'm a Mac user but now I feel the time to head over and purchase a PC, since I cant do things such as gaming very well on the mac. I would love to have a future proof pc that will last me for a very long time and can play games like GTA 5 in ultra/maxed out settings with at least 60fps.

I have been looking around on the pc specialist, I was looking at "Nex day systems" and came across this pc build:

The Vanquish Exige II Specification Snapshot:
  • Genuine Windows 8.1 64 Bit
  • 2TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s
  • 240GB KINGSTON V300 SSD
  • 4GB GEFORCE GTX 970
  • 16GB HYPER-X FURY (2 x 8GB)
  • ASUS® Z97-A
  • OC Intel® Core™ i7-4790k

Price: £1,222.00

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers-for-next-day-delivery/157/

I have tried to build the parts on similuar sites but the price always seems to be a few hundred more. I'm assuming this pc would give me maxed out settings in most games. What are peoples thoughts on this since this machine is alot of money and I dont know if i'm better getting something else.

Thanks!

Why don't you select your own parts for your own computer instead of being defined to the specs of a pre-built pc? One of the main reasons people build PCs is because of the unlimited customization that comes with it. Try going onto PCPartPicker, find some parts that will suit your needs. Then post the list here and the amazing community here at LTT will give feedback and help you finalize your PC.

This pc just seems what I need, If I were to build one I would choose pretty much the same I guess. The only thing I'm not sure is the motherboard on this machine, but it seems to be good from reviews online.

@jck1997 follow your topic.

you're not going to be able to max out GTA V, trust me. i have two 980s and with EVERYTHING cranked to the roof i still only get 45-50 FPS when i'm in the city during the day.

but a 970 will be able to take most of the high settings.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

What kind of CPU do you have? Some people say the CPU will also effect how much fps you get on this game. This build has an over clocked i7.

my CPU is not the best as an i7, i have an fx9590, you can check my profile for my build.

GTA V is making good use of my cores though.

if it is for gaming you don't need i7 or 16 GB ram

help for future proofing

I see, but still. You could always make your own parts list. And besides, the website actually doesn't specify what cooler will be on the 970. You should just change a few things to your own liking.

I'll make you a part list and you, and anyone else who would like to share their input. Can modify it to your liking.

i7 will give you 5 more FPS now and it will give you 5 more FPS in the future, there is no such thing as futureproof PC, and you can always get more ram but I never used more than 5.5GB in any game :)

Thank you for that, I thought the cpu would improve it alot more? If I had a lower spec cpu would it bottle neck a 970 card?

An i3 won't bottleneck a GTX 970, so just drop to an i5 4690k if you want to reduce the cost.

Not even i3 will bottleneck 970 :) i5 4690K is sweetspot for gaming and for that money you can easily get 4690K with 2 GTX970s in SLI which will give you roughly 60% (depends on game) FPS more than build you posted :)

And as I alredy posted this is what I would get for the money :) http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/KPbRbv

That's why i'm considering in buying this build for my first windows desktop pc :P, Do you think it could max out games like Gta 5 and still have stable 60 fps? I'm still not sure and still new to pc builds etc.

Heck yeah, that rig will max out any game at 1080p 60fps.

What about this? It holds open the door for further upgrades. Whilst also giving good performance right now.

Well GTA V has some ridiculous settings that will kill your FPS on any PC but with those off you will get 60FPS without a problem but as I said 4690K with 2 970s will give you a lot more performance for the same money if you build it yourself.
