So late in need of some help

hypergod

Hi tonight I Upgraded computer but when I have more than one stick of ram I get no signal to my monitor but the computer boots up. No idea if I changed something in the Bios before the upgrade by accident. The ram hasn't been touched it was already in my mobo when I upgraded

motherboard h81m-p33

Intel i5 4690k

2x4 gb ram

If the ram isn't fully seated, your motherboard will display a postcode.

EDIT: Your motherboard doesn't have this, but do make sure ram is fully seated.

Also take the ram out and test each one individually in each slot. That way you can eliminate the ram or mobo as the issue.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

Try re-seating it, even IF you never touched it and it was seated before. Just re-do it. Trust me.

Then, try switching places. Then slots.

One of those configs will work. And if it doesn't, by the end of that you'll know if/which ram is bad.

Did you put the ram in the correct slots. Check your MB manual for instructions about which slots to put ram in first. They go in pairs. You cant just put 2 sticks in first 2 slots is usually 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th.

Which ram did you buy? Tell me the brand, the frequency it runs on. Your MB supports ram with speeds up to 1600MHz so if you have any higher might not work. Also are boih ram sticks the same? That meaning from the same manufacturer and running on the same frequency?

Than it probably really is a dead slot. If you still have warranty use it if not...well save some money for a new MB if you really need more ram or buy 1 stick of ram with higher capacity

It's so weird I have no idea how it died I was so gentle moving it into a new case I'm boggled. Just for piece of mind it can't be the ram or CPU right? Because it does boot into Windows and I can game as long as I have 1 ram stick in slot one dosnt matter what ram stick they both work.

If both sticks work in one slot but not the other then it's definitely the slot, not the RAM.

Almost all H81 boards are going to require a BIOS update to run the 4690K. When you say upgraded what exactly did you upgrade? The CPU?

Just the CPU went from a g3258 to a 4690k and stock cooler to hyper Evo 12 I even tried updating my bios but that didn't make a difference

Odd  should have been a perfect swap then.

It does sound like a dead RAM slot...Just for posterity check your voltage settings for the CPU (4690k is going to need more juice than the G3258) and make sure that the RAM has the correct voltage/XMP timings loaded.
