Network Map Mac and Windows

Hi, I have my network setup showing my router and my windows machine but my mac will not show up under the network map for windows when connected, I talked with an Apple specialist but they said it was not thier issue but microsoft's, I tried talking with them but their system keeps breaking when I do, they had the mac capable of accessing my windows machine's files but not vice versa, so what am I missing?

It's because Windows sucks, Apple don't run Samba as their server for files, Microsoft can't be bothered implementing AFP.

 

So to answer your questions, you're not missing anything, it's just a lack of feature.

But I've ssen users able to have their mac show up but mine won't I don't get it

Oh, go into System Preferences and under Sharing enable File Sharing and make sure SMB is checked under options.

I did and they did as well, still didn't work

its a firewall issue most likely

to be honest..I would just throw a ftp server on each OS ..and transfer files that way

Yeah I turned off the firewall for Windows as well and it didn't work, is there a way to do it for mac?

not just the OS firewall..could be the router as well

Yea me and @techguru spent hours trying to get a firewall to let FTP threw (firewalls can be a bi%$)

Turns out I got it, just had to leave the mac plugged in for a loinger amount of time, but just to be sure i'll be doing more extensive tests and keep this updated, thanks for the support/help guys

If you connected your mac to the Windows PC's workgroup (AFAIK doesnt work with homegroup). If you don't know how to do this, google it.

You need to enable Samba (SMB) on Mac and also make sure, that the Windows PC and the Mac are in the same Network Workgroup/Domain.

If they are not, autodiscover won't work
