Nova Launcher on bone-stock Galaxy SIII?

flibberdipper

So, in case this old SIII my mom and stepdad got turns out to be painfully slow, will I be able to just download a launcher for it and have it ignore TouchWiz entirely? Or will I have to root the damned thing? Kinda noobie when it comes to this, so help would be GREATLY appreciated.

EDIT: If you're wondering how bone-stock, I'm literally trying to go through the apparently slow first-run setup right now (reset the phone).

I don't understand why everyone complains about how slow the S3 is? It's almost three years old, and given that, it seems perfectly fine to me.

On-topic: Nova Launcher will just replace the home screen look. It doesn't get rid of TouchWiz. You'll have to root and install a custom ROM for that.

(reset the phone).

Nova Launcher will only replace the home screen, so the rest of TouchWiz will still be running(the TW launcher won't run). I'm running Nova Prime on my stock S3 and its pretty good, but other than the theme Touchwiz is fairly light on the S3(unlike the S4 and beyond).

Nova Launcher will ignore the stock Touchwizh Launcher...but Touchwiz will exist in the device...

Doesn't matter if it still exists.

I honestly don't find it to be that slow. Before the reset it was terribad though.

Is Nova any lighter?

TouchWiz does noticeably bog down the S3's potential but it's not that bad, and although I agree that S4 TouchWiz is just downright dreadful, TouchWiz on the S5 and higher flies. Performance has been hugely improved, if only it didn't look so damn ugly.

It seems to make my LG G3 faster on rooted stock Lollipop. It sure is lighter than TW, especially the older versions.

It's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature!

Other than the extra RAM usage, it runs really smooth.

Alright. I guess I'll download it now.
