Question about transferring HDD to another computer

Go to solution Solved by Boink,

You can, but as mentioned above, a clean install would be better. If you have the windows license from your old install you can use it again, you just can't have two active computers running with the same license.

Okay, so, I'm pretty sure my computer is a paperweight now, but I'll probably build another. Here's what I'm wondering. I have an HDD with everything on it including OS and an SSD with nothing on it - was planning on transferring OS before it got fucked up. My question is, if I get a new computer, can I put that HDD in there and basically pick up where I left off?

I think there is a way but I recommend doing a clean install, you could use your HDD as an archive and copy large files like games over SATA instead of redownloading

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

How would I do that? Transferring games, etc over SATA? Not familiar with that.

just plug the "old" drive into your PC and copy them to the new drive

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).
